If you've received an Apto delivery recently, you may have noticed a few lines printed on the box. Here's the story behind them.
Every Apto package carries the same statement:
86% post-consumer · 9% pre-consumer recycled paper.
This package is designed to protect your Apto product without the use of plastic inserts.
Please recycle all paper-based pieces in your curbside recycling.
Those three sentences reflect a set of choices Apto made deliberately — about what our packaging is made of, how it's engineered, and what happens to it after it reaches you.
What 95% recycled paper looks like in practice
Post-consumer recycled content is material that has already lived a full life — cardboard boxes, office paper, newspapers — collected and remade into something new. At 86%, the vast majority of every Apto box comes from paper that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. The remaining 9% is pre-consumer content: manufacturing off-cuts recovered before they ever reach a consumer. Together, that's 95% recycled paper in every single box we ship.
We chose to print this number on the box because we think it should be visible. It's not a footnote — it's a core part of what Apto packaging is.
Plastic-free, by design
Eliminating plastic inserts from furniture packaging isn't the easy path foam and plastic exist in this industry because they are cheap and they work.
Our packaging is engineered entirely from corrugated cardboard, custom structured to hold each Apto product securely and absorb impact in transit. No foam. No plastic. Just material and geometry doing the job. To get there, we worked with Zenpack, a sustainable packaging company whose structural engineers helped us design inserts that meet the demands of furniture shipping without a single piece of plastic.
One-Step Recycling
When you're done unboxing, every piece, the box and inserts, goes into your curbside recycling bin. No separating materials, no hunting for a drop-off location. That simplicity is intentional. We wanted the right choice to be the easiest one.
The furniture you bring into your home from Apto is a considered decision. We think the box it arrives in should reflect that same care and leave as little trace as possible once it's done its job.
