Most knife blocks solve storage the same way: fixed slots cut for a fixed set, trapping crumbs and moisture in spaces you can't reach. We designed the Slot Knife Block to serve you without these limitations.
Familiar First
The designer began with a shape people already know. "I wanted the overall form to feel familiar and approachable to a wide range of consumers," they explain. They said
"The shape is inspired by the traditional knife block, allowing users to immediately understand its purpose while still introducing a more contemporary design."
It reads as a knife block at first look but the warm natural wood removable panels, steel frame, and open-slot structure are entirely new.
Built for Your Favorite Knives
Most people don't own a matched knife set. Most home-chefs have picked up their collection here and there over years of recipes and trial-and-error.
"I wanted the knife holder to stand out from conventional knife blocks by removing the limitations of fixed, knife-specific slots. The Slot Knife Block is designed to accommodate a wide range of universal knife sizes and forms."
We wanted to create a home to serve your collection instead of the other way around.
Protect, Clean, and Create
Traditional knife blocks collect moisture and debris deep in narrow slots. Not only are traditional slots designed to hold just one knife size, they are also usually too narrow to clean and you can forget about taking a peek inside to check for mold.
The Apto Solution
At Apto we believe in the power of good design to enhance both function and the quality of your everyday life. To address the cleaning issue, the Slot Knife Block was designed with natural wood components that can be easily removed and disassembled. We wanted to create a system that allowed users to access and clean the interior of the holder. Paired with open-slot design, it's a knife block that protects the knives you already love instead of working against them.
The Result
A familiar shape, rebuilt from the inside out. It is approachable, adaptable, and easy to keep clean. The Slot Knife Block is designed for how you cook and optimizes how you live.
